To the Editor: With all the discussion recently about the future of Playland and the cost to Westchester County to operate it I feel that the circulating information is not exactly accurate and that some very important items are overlooked.

To the Editor: The United States government and the individual states recognize that it is an immutable truth that revenue should be based on income because income is the true criterion of ability to pay. The only tax based on the market value of our homes should be that which is levied on the profit resulting from their sale. Instead, we have an annual market value penalty we suffer for the privilege of living in our homes.

To the Editor: With back to school shopping soon upon us, it’s important that we give some thought as to how our shopping decisions affect our community. For while it may be easier to buy school supplies at a big box retailer or books online, what impact do these decisions and our other buying habits have on the value of what for most of us is our most important asset, our homes?

To the Editor: Her name was Agnes Bojaxhiu, but she was better known as “Mother Teresa.” Aug, 26, 2010 was the 100th birthday of Mother Teresa. She died in 1997 at the age of 87 but more importantly she epitomized the real meaning of Christianity and had a sense of humanity that many others wish they could emulate. She was a Catholic nun who was Albanian that founded the Missionaries of Charity in India. She helped and supported the poor and the sick for close to a half-century in India. The missionaries had 610 chapters in more than 123 countries giving help to people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and providing many soup kitchens.

To the Editor: In the July 23 edition of your newspaper, a writer, who describes himself as a “…U.S. Navy WWII veteran and retired engineer,” takes issue with a column which supported the general fired by President Obama.
