For the Mamaroneck Tigers, it appeared that 2012 just might not be their year. Then came their Jan. 17 showdown with Rye. The Tigers were coming off losses to Scarsdale and New Rochelle, while the Rye Garnets hadn’t dropped a game against in-section competition all season long. It didn’t take long into regulation against the Garnets, however, for the Tigers to remind fans why they’ve been one of the elite teams in Section I for quite some time. By the time the final whistle sounded, Mamaroneck would emerge over a talented Rye team with a 3-0 shutout win.
Just 15 seconds into the game, Mamaroneck’s Teddy Bellis scored on an assist from Eric Hugon. A few minutes later, the Tigers got a shorthanded goal from Nathan Mulhaney, setting the score at 2-0 and putting the game effectively out of reach.

Friday the 13th was an unusually chaotic day in the Town of Eastchester. A water main carrying water to the Sound Shore area burst on a major thoroughfare, flooding side streets and nearby properties, and causing lane closures and corresponding traffic backups.

Even though the Detroit Tigers finished the 2003 season with 119 losses, they had reason to celebrate: They could have lost 120 games, which would have tied them with the 1962 Mets for the worst modern baseball record. They might have even lost 121 games and unseated the Mets for “worst in history.”

The Westchester Sandbox Theatre is now registering for its spring musical theater classes for young performers. Join professional teachers in a nurturing environment and become a better actor, singer and dancer. Classes meet on Mondays: from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. for grades K-3; 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. for grades 4-6; and 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. for grades 7-12. This is a 10-week program with a showcase performance at the end of the semester. The semester begins Feb. 27 and the fee is $300.
